A resident of Las Vegas since 1980, Michael’s interest in real estate began in his freshman year at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, at which time he embarked upon his destined profession. He began in 1988 in the customer service department of Nevada Title Company, where he was responsible for researching property ownership, mapping, and recorded documents. He was 22 years old and working in the High Liability Escrow Department when he departed the escrow/title industry to embark in the realm of commercial real estate brokerage. Michael’s career commenced during a challenging time. The Las Vegas economy was hurt by reduced tourism during the first Gulf War, there was a water moratorium on new projects in Las Vegas and the commercial lending market nearly collapsed due to the savings and loan debacle. During this downturn, Michael developed a strategy for success. He focused his efforts on the area of Las Vegas that he believed would be the first in demand in a market upturn. He identified an opportunity and assembled land for Lewis Homes, the largest homebuilder in Nevada at the time, resulting in his first successful land deal. Michael and his partner, Randy Black Jr., syndicated some adjacent property with $100K raised with friends and family. Since this first investment, Michael and Randy have bought and sold over $1 Billion in land and currently manage a portfolio of approximately $500 Million, while realizing a consistent flow of positive returns. Under their company, LandBaron Investments, Michael has invested in and managed funds for private capital clients and institutional investors throughout the United States. Michael’s success comes from his skill in analyzing investment opportunities, creating relationships and raising capital. Michael is frequently asked to speak as a panelist at industry conferences locally and regionally and organizes fundraisers annually for local charities.
